Better Jobs Ontario formerly Second Career Program

Since April 29, 2022, the Second Career Program has changed its name to Better Jobs Ontario and eligibility criteria have been expanded to better help people who may face challenges finding stable jobs.

The Better Jobs Ontario program gives you the opportunity to receive professional training while receiving financial support.

The program provides the following benefits:

  • Access to training in a high-demand trade in Ontario
  • Financial support up to $28,000 to help cover:
  • Tuition fees, books, manuals, workbooks and other education-related fees
  • Transportation cost
  • Basic living allowance (maximum of $500 per week)
  • Child care expenses

Additional support may be available to accommodate the needs of people with disabilities, dependent care, costs of living away from home and academic upgrading.

You can apply even if you are receiving or have received unemployment benefits.

The eligibility criteria for this program are:

  • Have been laid-off and have not been working or are working a temporary job just to cover costs
  • Have not been laid-off but have been unemployed for six months or longer and are part of a low-income household
  • Living in Ontario
